Warmia and Mazury Regional Development Agency Joint Stock Company in Olsztyn was established in 1993 on the initiative of local governments of Olsztyn Voivodeship of the time. WMRDA in Olsztyn is incorporated in the Register of Entrepreneurs of the National Court Register kept by the District Court in Olsztyn, 8th Commercial Division of the National Court Register under number KRS 0000014479. The share capital amounts to PLN 5 749 000.00 and is paid up in full. WMRDA’s shareholders include: Voivodeship Self-Government, entities of local government, government legal entities, individuals and other private entities.

WMRDA operates for the development of Warmińsko-Mazurskie Voivodeship and an increase in competitiveness of its economy. It fosters relations between domestic and foreign entities for business operation and stimulates the activities of institutions, social and local government organisations and business entities.

WMRDA’s operations are closely related to running the European Union aid programmes. Since the Agency was established it has acted as a go-between in a variety of forms of utilizing the EU funds. At the beginning it operated the pre-accession programmes: Phare – STRUDER, Phare – STRUDER 2, Phare – RAPID, Phare 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 and since 2004 it has run programmes financed with the structural funds: the Integrated Regional Operational Programme (IROP), the Sectoral Operational Programme Increase in Competitiveness of Enterprises (SOP ICE) and the Sectoral Operational Programme Human Resources Development (SOP HRD). In the period from 2004 to 2006 WMRDA distributed over 200 mln zł of the EU funds to the region’s companies.Warmia and Mazury Regional Development Agency participates in development of the region actively by taking part in a process of programming for years 2007-2013 and preparing further forms of utilizing resources from the structural funds. Since February 2008 WMRDA has performed under a contract with the Marshal Office of Warmińsko-Mazurskie Voivodeship for the implementation of the submeasures for entrepreneurship of Warmia and Mazury Regional Operational Programme for years 2007-2013. As a secondary intermediate body WMRDA is going to distribute over 152 mln euros for support for entrepreneurship in the region. Moreover, WMRDA performs a role of a partner for the Polish Agency for Enterprise Development – an Intermediate Body for some of the measures under the Innovative Economy Operational Programme. It acts as an intermediary in the process of implementing a programme for financing innovative undertakings on the domestic or international scale that is targeted at small and medium-sized enterprises.
